Traffic Week extended till Aug 14
Police have extended Traffic Week to August 14 to stop traffic violation across the country including Dhaka city.
The period of ongoing Traffic Week has been extended to three days from August 12 to 14, reads a text message floated to media today by Inspector General of Police Mohammad Javed Patwary.
Meanwhile, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia announced the extension of Traffic Week as law enforcers received positive feedbacks from the week-long programme.
“We have extended the period of Traffic Week till August 14 after getting positive results from the ongoing week-long programme,” he said at a press conference at the DMP media centre in Dhaka today.
The DMP witnesses the huge progress of applying traffic laws, he said and “we will continue to apply traffic laws and take action against the traffic violators, regardless of class and person.”
The DMP chief said innocent children have shaken their thought.
Following recent student protests demanding safe roads, DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, on August 4, announced the week-long programme to take legal steps against unfit vehicles, drivers without licence and other traffic offenders, including pedestrians.
Yesterday, on the sixth day of the Traffic Week, police lodged 52,417 cases against different vehicles and took action against 11, 405 drivers for traffic violations including driving on the wrong side, not having driving licenses and fitness certificates, he said.
“We have collected a revenue of over Tk three crores as fines during the period,” said Asaduzzaman.
