Banpara highway police’s officer-in-charge (OC) has been closed in the aftermath of the deadly Natore crash, that left 15 people dead last Saturday.

GM Shamsur Nur, the highway police officer, has been closed and attached to the office of Bogra highway police’s superintendent – effective from today.

Md Shahidullah, additional superintendent of Bogra zone highway police, confirmed The Daily Star of the development and said he was blamed for negligence.

At least 15 people, including five of two families, were killed and 20 others injured in Saturday’s road crash in Natore’s Baraigram during the Eid holidays.

The crash took place on Natore-Pabna highway when a bus colliding head-on with a human haulier – locally known as leguna, a vehicle illegal to ply on highways.

According to law enforcers, 10 people died on the spot, three on way to hospitals and the two others while undergoing treatment at hospitals.
