2 ‘Robbers’ killed in in Bogra, N’ganj ‘gunfights’
Two alleged robbers were killed in separate “gunfights” with police in Bogra and Narayanganj early today.
Five police personnel were also injured during the “gunfights” in the two districts.
Apan alias Sizar, 32, who has been killed in the reported gunfight in Bogra, was accused in more than 11 cases including five arm cases filed with different police stations, said Sonaton Chakroborty, additional superintendent of police (ASP, Sadar Circle) of Bogra.
Informed that a gang was taking preparation to commit robbery, a police team led by ASP Sonaton Chakroborty raided Matidali area of Bogra town around 2:30am, said the official.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the alleged robbers opened fire, prompting them to retaliate which triggered the “gunfight”, said the ASP.
Apan, the leader of the gang, was hit by a bullet during the “gunfight”, the police official said adding that Apan’s cohorts fled the scene leaving him on the spot.
He was rushed to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital around 3.00 am where the doctors pronounced him dead, the police official said.
Police recovered a pipe gun a, two bullets and two sharp weapons from Apan’s pocket.
Three members of Bogra Sadar Police station were also injured during the reported gunfight, and now undergoing treatment at Bogra Police Lines Hospital.
Apan was son Nur Hossain Khandakar, hailed from Karnopur(Manikchak area) of Bogra Sadar upazila.
In Narayanganj, Mobarak, 35, was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj early today.
Police also held six other members of the alleged robber gang from the spot, Morshed Alam, officer-in-charge of Sonargaon Police Station, told our Narayanganj correspondent.
Acting on a tip-off, police raided Asharirchar Bridge area in the upazila around 4:30am. Sensing the presence of the law enforces, the “robbers started firing" at them, prompting them to fire back that triggered the “gunfight”.
Two police officials of the police station -- ASI Narayan and Constable Momin -- were also injured during the reported gunfight, the police official said.
