A schoolgirl, who was critically injured after being beaten allegedly by her cousin over a trifling matter in Madhupur upazila on Wednesday, died early yesterday.

The dead, Mousumi Akter, 13, was the daughter of Mofiz Uddin of Dakkhin Laofula village. She was a class-VI student at a local high school.

Mofiz alleged that his elder brother's son Sujon was locked in an altercation with his daughter, claiming that a goat of Mousumi damaged brinjal plants of Sujon. 

At one stage, Sujon became furious and hit Mousumi in the head with a stick, leaving her seriously wounded, he added.

Mousumi was admitted to Madhupur Upazila Health Complex where she died around 2:00am yesterday.

Mofiz filed a murder case against Sujon and three others of his family with Madhupur Police Station.

Safiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of the police station, said all the accused went into hiding.

Police were trying to arrest them, he added.
