Daily Star reach semis on Mujib magic

The Daily Star (TDS) reached the semi-finals of the Walton-DRU Media Cup Football Tournament after ousting Kaler Kontho 2-1 in penalty shootout at Shaheed (Captain) M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium in Gulistan today.

After 20 minutes of stipulated time, none of the sides managed to score and the game headed for penalty shootout. Mohammad Al-Amin, Sports Editor and Fazlur Rahman succeeded in their attempts at goal. Mujibur Rahman, the goalkeeper of TDS blocked four shots with incredible athleticism to deny the favourites a place in the semi-finals of the tournament, reports our correspondent.

Mujibur Rahman, sports secretary of DRU was adjudged the man-of-the-match for this outstanding performance, as he kept TDS in the game with some invaluable saves during the intense encounter at the handball stadium.

In the semi-final match tomorrow at the same venue, due to begin at 10:15 am, TDS will lock horns with a formidable Sangbad Pratidin side for the place in the final.

The Walton-DRU Media Cup Football Tournament, organised by Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) and sponsored by Walton Group began on August 28 with 34 teams representing various print, electronic media, news agencies and online media houses of Bangladesh.
