Baridhara, Feni Soccer show-caused
Uttar Baridhara Club and Feni Soccer Club have been sent show-cause notices by the Bangladesh Football Federation, asking the clubs to explain the reason behind their no-show for the relegation play-off fixture of the Bangladesh Premier League.
The two clubs, tied on 18 points at the end of the league, were scheduled to play the two-legged playoff to decide which team would go down to the second-tier professional league.
However, neither of the teams turned up on the scheduled first leg on January 4, compelling an abandonment of the fixture. Curiously all the arrangements were made by the game's governing body for the second leg of the fixture on Saturday, but as expected, both clubs refrained from coming to the ground.
A source inside the football federation informed that both clubs have been sent formal notices for their absence in the first leg match, the reply to which is expected by today while a new show-cause letter will be issued for the non-showing in the second leg as well.
The source also informed that together with the show-cause replies, match commissioner's report, and relevant media reports will soon be sent to the Disciplinary Committee, which will recommend sanctions, if any, against the two teams for their transgression.
