Dining Chic

A well furnished dining space should not only be visually striking but also feel good to the touch. Imagine a dining room that is most comfortable, where people can enjoy, lingering over delicious meals and conversations. Every home has a distinct style and décor that is usually designed to reflect the taste of the owner.

This week we are focusing on an open dining area. First, some basics about the space concerned - this house has an open concept decor; is quite large in scale; and is a very contemporary duplex apartment.

Here we did not create any closed foyers; we suggested and turned the lift lobby into one. The place is a single unit so the lift lobby is a personal fringe. We placed a wooden shoe rack and console table on the stair's landing. Some small pot plants and decorative trimmings have created a welcoming mood.

After a gorgeous double entry door, an open space has been planned like a foyer. It is also in front of the living room's folding door. We designed a small rectangular white false ceiling attached with a curved glass artwork along few spotlights above this special little front zone.

The dining table is generally a focal point of the dining space. When choosing a table consider its stability as well as its shape and size. To ensure comfortable seating and space to accommodate large parties, allow at least 24-inches per person around the table.

In our case, the landlady arranged a beautiful beige marble top of an eight-seater dining set. The chairs are of semi-classical pattern, although the table is has an air of fusion, a combination of contemporary and classical. Simplicity is the essence of style. The dining is very much incomplete without china that is suitable for formal and casual dining alike.

We placed custom made upper and lower cabinets just beside the kitchen door. So the homeowner can locate her dinner accessories in the top of the lower part. Generally we placed décor pieces on the top of the cabinet.

We arranged another small cabinet just beside the dining table. Here we used a different style for the cabinet's back wall, covered with wooden panel and matched walnut lacquer polished. We also used another trick for the kitchen door, which slides beside this panel. So the panel is very functional; at a glance it's creating and saving space at the same time.

Light is an essential key of any décor; here we got sufficient light from nature. The apartment is a duplex unit, so the internal stairs are just opposite of dining table. The double height front window is sufficient for openness and natural light. So, the natural transition provides a relaxing view.

We planned for a minimal false ceiling, just a side line to enhance the room's wall with indirect lighting and spotlight illumination. We used some design lights, such as hanging chandelier and table lamps for night time.

The space is well circulated; in fact having furniture, thus creating more open space is comfortable for living. As designers, we suggested few more generous armchairs nearest to the dining table area and under the stairs.

We provided enough seating for everyone by setting small groups of sofas throughout the room to inspire conservation and shared laughter. So, this dining came to be ideal for buffet lunch or dinner.

The colour palette is also very important, we used light creams colour for the wall. The ceiling is absolute white with sufficient height, and it has created more space. The floor is covered with white marble with black border lines. For this, we suggested a basic colour palette that is neutral and furniture's polished are deep walnut brown.

Accessories are the soul of any house. For decoration you do not need any mandatory style. You can arrange your place according the event. Here we placed different accents in altered time. Even you can bring small pot plants for refreshment at the edge of window.

Remember, well-chosen details make a tasteful space into a place to celebrate.
