Boho Décor

Bohemian style is not limited to your clothes and accessories. Take those colours, prints and textures that you love and display them all over your home to express your bohemian soul.

The key to a proper boho décor is balance, as it is easy to get lost amongst all the vibrant patterns that are attractive, often times all equally so! Since boho slants more on the natural and earthy side, it always involves lots and lots of plants. Hanging creepers to small succulents, planted in rustic bronze and gold potters, and sometimes even baskets. The other element most boho rooms have are baskets, big and small and of numerous textures, colourful, plain or printed.

Rugs are an absolute must when inclined towards that bohemian touch. Look for thick furry ones with tribal prints, like those inspired by Aztec culture, the older they look the more authentic they feel. Just like Aztec culture, there are other sources, closer to home, which can be an inspiration for boho décor. Our local cultural heritage, like Nakshi Kantha, and Shataranji, one crafted by masterful needlework, the other with age old weaving techniques.

One could also hang these rugs for a pop of colour on stark white walls. Complementary textured cushion covers can bring in harmony with the walls, just as well as contrasts can.

For eclectic fusion, you can pick all neutral and natural colour décor items, like floor rug, couch upholstery, floor cushions, throw pillow, and even table mats, and bring in the element of wow with a very modern abstract painting in bold colours on a beige or cream wall, if not a more earthy hue.

This idea can be flipped in anyway you want, like keeping the whole room in neural shades but adding the pop of colour with a collection of patchwork pillows, or rug, or a central piece of furniture.

Incorporating burlap and rattan into your current décor can also give it that earthy vibe-- be it a simple rattan nightstand or burlap cushion covers. Lastly, raw branches in flower pots, hanging feathers, crochets, tassels and woollen pom-poms can give some finishing touches to your new boho room.
