IBA-JU celebrates 25 years of excellence

Institute of Business Administration, Jahangirnagar University (IBA-JU) celebrated its silver jubilee on February 24, 2017. The event was a day-long event reuniting all former and current students of IBA-JU. The day started with inauguration by the Pro-VC Professor Dr. Md. Abul Hossain. 

The event was presided over by Prof. Dr. Motaher Hossain, Director of IBA-JU. Guests included VC Prof. Dr. Farzana Islam; Member of PSC and former VC Prof. Dr. Shariff Enamul Kabir; Arfan Ali, President & MD of Bank Asia Limited and Sharmin Sultan, VP of Talent Management and Development, Robi Axiata. IBA-JU graduates Quamrul Hassan (Business Director, ACI), Toufiq E Elahi Choudhury (EVP, Trust Bank Limited) and Moshtaq Ahmed (CEO, Nybsys) were awarded for their outstanding achievements. Special recognitions were awarded to Late Md. Waliullahand Social Welfare Club of IBA-JU for social contribution. The evening celebrations included a hearty cultural program and band performances by the IBA-JU students. The day came to an end with the live performance of "Arnab and Friends" and glorious fireworks. SHOUT was the Youth Engagement Partner of the event.

 

BRACU Architecture hosts open house 

Department of Architecture, BRAC University (BRACU) arranged a day-long exhibition titled "Noir et Blanc" on March 2, 2017. Students enrolled in Bachelor of Architecture in Spring 2017 semester participated in the event and was guided by their course instructors Amir Ebn Sharif, Saiqa Iqbal Meghna, Tanjina Khan and Riffat Farjana.

Dr. Sajid Bin Doza, Assistant Professor, Department of Architecture inaugurated the exhibition, where freehand sketches and two-dimensional compositions done with pencil on paper were displayed.

Parents of freshers also joined this exhibition. Instructors welcomed to queries from the parents, and explaining to them the unconventional coursework, studio culture and daily routines architecture students usually face.

ACC organises National Science Festival 2017

RUBAIYAT SIDDIQUE DIBA

Neutrino ACC Science Club organised the 3rd ACC National Science Festival 2017, hosted by Adamjee Cantonment College on February 24, 2017. Major General S M Matiur Rahman, Adjutant General, Bangladesh Army was present as the chief guest. Chairman of Adamjee Cantonment Authority Board, Principal of Adamjee Cantonment College, and principals and teachers of other reputed army-run schools and colleges were present as guests at the inauguration ceremony. 

The chief guest appreciated the innovative ideas of the young children displayed through their projects and wall magazines. The main events of the festival included extempore, Rubik's Cube and Olympiads on different science-based subjects. This year, Neutrino ACC Science Club launched nature based events like nature study, eco vocabulary, green exhibition, etc. The second day of the fair started with the final rounds of the quiz competition of both junior and senior level hosted by quizmaster Ferdous Bappy. Apart from the quiz, the second day had events like Sudoku, crossword, criminal identification, science fiction story writing, multimedia presentation, eco-friendly business ideas, programming contest and more. 

On the last day, Yafes Osman, Minister of State for Science and Technology, was present as the chief guest of the closing ceremony. He praised the efforts of the organisers for a phenomenal event that involved both recreational and educational factors for young participants. After the speech, prizes were distributed among the winners of the festival.

 

Discussion on book titled "Indigenous Identity in South Asia" at IUB

The School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised an in-depth interactive discussion session with author Dr. Tamina M. Chowdhury on her book "Indigenous Identity in South Asia: Making claims in the colonial Chittagong Hill Tracts" on February 27, 2017 at its campus in Bashundhara.

Along with the author, Dr. Imtiaz Ahmed, Professor, Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka, human rights activists Khushi Kabir and Dr. Md. Tanzimuddin Khan, Associate Professor, Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka were present as key discussants of the session. The event was moderated by Towhid Samad, Founder Trustee and former Chairman of the Board of Trustees, IUB and ESTCDT.

In his welcome speech, Prof. M. Omar Rahman, VC of IUB said that the topic of this book is of great interest at this period of time as the notion of identity has come back with a great force in the western world and IUB is happy to hold such a crucial interactive session with the author.

Deans and Heads of different Schools and Departments, senior members of the faculty and management of IUB, dignitaries attended the programme. 

 

NUB Pro-VC inaugurates seminar on Bengali  literature

Prof. Dr. Anwarul Karim, Pro-VC, Northern University Bangladesh, inaugurated a two-day international seminar on February 28 on "Pre-Modernity in Bengali literature" at the auditorium of Rabindra Bharati University in Kolkata.

The programme was attended by Prof. Dr. Amitra Sudan Bhattacharya, the renowned Professor of Visva Bharati, Santiniketan as chief guest. The seminar was presided over by Prof. Dr. Munmun Gangopdhyay, Head of Bengali Department, Rabindra Bharati University.

Prof. Karim congratulated the university for organising the seminar in the month of February showing respect to the language movement of Bangladesh and the International Mother Language Day. The chief guest paid glowing tributes to the Bengali Department and said, "We must look in to the past and should pay respect to those who helped build Bengali language and literature. Our young scholars should devote time to the study of old and middle ages in relation to Bengali literature." 

 

BUBT holds Career Fair 2017 

Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) and online career portal chakri.com jointly organised BUBT Career Fair 2017 on March 4. The fair was inaugurated by Minister of Planning, A H M Mustafa Kamal, MP at at the BUBT campus in Mirpur. Prof. Dr. Shafique Ahmed Siddique, Convener of BUBT Academic Advisory Committee, distinguished educationist, member and former Chairman of BUBT Trust and Prof. Md. Abu Saleh, VC of BUBT were present at the inauguration ceremony. 

The chief guest of the programme gave an inspiring speech to the students of BUBT. He said, "The next generation should complete our incomplete works. Do not compromise in the question of country's interest. The students of BUBT not only do jobs but also create jobs." 

In the discussion programme, Prof. Dr. Shafique Ahmed Siddique, Convener of BUBT Academic Advisory Committee was present as the special guest. Dr. Syed Masud Husain, Dean of Business faculty of BUBT and Redwan-ul-Haque, Head of Business, chakri.com also delivered their speeches.

At the event, more than a thousand CVs were submitted to 16 participating companies which are Transcom Electronics, Bitopi Group, Rangs Motors, RSP Motors, Walton, Hassan Book Depot, Credence Holdings, Hub Dhaka, Energypac, ImmiVisa, Concord Group, Connect Bangladesh Ltd., GPH Ispat Limited, Excel Telecom Limited, Bangladesh Lamps Limited and Shwapno. From those CVs participating companies took instant interviews of selected candidates. Thirty candidates secured jobs in the well-reputed companies.
