La Liga refuses Neymar’s buy-out cheque
Neymar’s 222 million euro buyout-clause which was to be deposited to the La Liga offices via a cheque in PSG’s name has not been accepted, Spanish media reports say.
Lawyer Juan de Dios Crespo, a specialist in sports law at the Ruiz-Huerta & Crespo practice, was charged with the responsibility of depositing the check.
The lawyer, who is representing PSG had to leave without his task being fulfilled.
According to Marca, Crespo, who has worked on many high-profile cases, including the recent decision by FIFA to drop Messi's ban for arguing with the referee after an Argentina match, arrived with a notary as a witness following the threat by LaLiga chief Javier Tebas to not accept the payment of the buy-out clause.
La Liga president, Javier Tebas, had already warned in an interview that Spain's league would not accept payment by PSG to trigger the release clause, saying it was potentially in breach of UEFA Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.
The next step would see Neymar’s representatives presenting the provisional transfer to FIFA.
Marca report also says that La Liga cannot block Neymar’s buy-out clause because of the agreement that was made in the contract and so FIFA are set to agree to the provisional move.
