Murder accused killed in Keraniganj ‘gunfight’
An accused of three murder cases was killed in a “gunfight” with detectives in South Keraniganj, on the outskirts of Dhaka city early today.
Deceased Al Amin, 33, was accused of 14 cases, including murders and arms and drugs trading, filed with different police stations, Dipok Chandra Shah, Officer-in-charge of DB (Dhaka south), told The Daily Star.
Tipped off, a DB team arrested Al Amin from Shreenagar of Munshiganj yesterday, said the OC.
Later, a team of plainclothes Detective Branch of police along with Al Amin went to Khejurbagan area to recover hidden firearms around 2:30am today.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the cohorts of Al Amin opened fire on the law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate that triggered a “gunfight”.
At one stage, Al Amin was caught in the line of fire and hit by bullets, the OC said adding that his associates however managed to flee the scene.
Four policemen were also injured during the incident, he added.
Al Amin was taken to Dhaka Mitford Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
