‘Outlaw’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with Pabna cops
An alleged outlaw was killed in what police claimed a gunfight in Bera upazila of Pabna early today.
Deceased Julhash Mondol, 42, was the leader of an outlawed outfit, locally known as Julhash Bahini, and an accused in nine criminal cases filed in different districts including Pabna, Kushtia and Rajbari, our Pabna correspondent reports quoting Superintendent of Pabna Police Jihadul Kabir.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Mondol from the capital yesterday and handed him over to Aminpur Police Station of Pabna, the official said.
Acting on his information, Aminpur police were taking Julhash to recover his cache of arms in Dourir Char of Bera upazila, when his cohorts fired shots at the police near Balaz Member intersection in Dhalar Char area around 1:00am, prompting police to retaliate that triggered a “gunfight”, Jihadul added.
At one point of the “gunfight”, Julhash’s cohorts fled leaving Julhash’s body on the spot.
Police recovered two pipe guns, one pistol, seven bullets and two machetes and some other sharp weapons from the spot.
Four police personnel were also injured in the incident.
