‘Criminal’ killed in Mymensingh ‘gunfight’
A suspected criminal was killed in a reported gunfight with detectives in Mymensingh town early today hours after he was arrested by the law enforcers.
Deceased Abdus Salam alias Kala Chan, 42, son of Abdus Sattar of Rally intersection of the town, was an accused of eight cases filed on various charges including murder and drug trading, our Mymensingh correspondent reports quoting police.
A team of Detective Branch of police arrested Salam in Rally intersection area around 1:45am, said Ashikur Rahman, officer-in-charge of DB who also led the drive.
The incident took place around 2:15am when the DB team along with Salam went to Alia Madrasa area to arrest Siraj Uddin, a local drug trader, he said.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, Siraj and his cohorts opened fire at the detectives, forcing police to retaliate that triggered the "gunfight".
Salam was hit by a bullet when he came in the line of fire, the police official said.
Injured Salam was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, the DB official added.
