4 shot over AL rivalry
At least four persons sustained bullet injuries during an altercation between two factions of local Awami League (AL) unit of Sikalbaha union under Karnaphuli police station in Chittagong Saturday night over establishing their supremacy.
The injured, Josh Ahmed, 33, Abul Kalam, 33, and Md Abul, 18 and Najim Uddin, were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for treatment, said police.
Sayedul Mostafa, officer-in-charge (OC) of Karnaphuli Police Station, told The Daily Star “The incident took place at CDA-Tek area of Karnaphuli at around 8:00pm between two groups, one supporting the present chairman of Sikalbaha union Jahangir Alam and the other supporting former chairman of the union Abul Kalam Bokul over establishing supremacy in the area.”
“No one has lodged compliant in this connection as yet while none has been arrested so far,” said the OC adding that additional police force has been deployed at the area to avert further altercations.
