Hurt quota movement leader forced to leave hospital, family alleges
Family members of one of the injured leaders of quota reform movement alleged that authorities of a hospital in Dhaka forcefully released him in the wee hours of today.
Nurul Haque Nur, a joint convener of Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, was injured along with several others in an attack allegedly by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) members in Dhaka University on June 30.

Asking for anonymity, a family member of Nur told The Daily Star over phone that they were forced to leave Anwar Khan Modern Medical College Hospital in Dhanmondi around 2:30am even after recurrent requests of staying for the night at the hospital.
Nur’s family then admitted to another hospital in the city, our staff correspondent reports quoting the family sources.
“The officials of Anwar Khan Modern Medical College Hospital informed us around 1:00am that Nur is being discharged as per the instructions of higher authorities,” the family member said.
“They asked us to take treatment elsewhere” he added.
Nur’s family then informed the media and told them that the hospital is forcibly ousting them despite Nur being very ill, the staff correspondent reports.
However, when the correspondent reached the hospital following the allegations, the Ansar members of the hospital barred him from entering its premises saying journalists are not allowed inside.
Murad Haider Khan, the customer care officer of the hospital, met the correspondent around 1:40am when he demanded to talk with the authorities.
“Nur has been given time to stay in the hospital till morning as his family said they couldn’t go at night,” Murad said adding that Nur was released according to the instructions of the doctors.
Earlier last night, an additional deputy commissioner of DMP along with his team visited Nur and asked his family members to inform police before getting Nur released from the hospital.

Visiting the hospital around 10:30pm, one of our reporters found a police van was parked in front of the hospital even after the ADC-led team left.
DU Eng dept protests attack on Nur
Meanwhile, the students and teachers of English department of DU, today formed a human chain in front of Oparajeyo Bangla in protest of the attack on Nur, a Masters student of the department.
The participants of the human chain also alleged that member of Bangladesh Chhatra League(BCL) came and threatened them to not take part in the protest while they were gathering on the spot ahead of the event.
“A group of youths identifying themselves as students came to the Oparajeyo Bangla on bikes while we were arranging the programme around 11:00am and threatened us to not hold the event,” said Tasnim Mahmud, associate professor of the department.
Many students and teachers of the department gathered to protest against the attack on a student of the department along with attack on general students as a whole, our DU correspondent reports quoting the associate professor.
“We want safe environment for all students regardless politics and religion,” Tasnim Mahmud added.
On Saturday, seven members of the quota platform, including its joint convener Nurul Haque Nur, were beaten by alleged BCL activists in front of the DU Central Library.
The incident took place when the protesters were about to hold a press briefing to announce their next course of action as three months have passed since Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina declared removal of the quota system.
