‘Burnt body of cop’ recovered in Gazipur

A burnt body of a police official was recovered from Kaliganj upazila of Gazipur this afternoon.

On information, police recovered the body of Mamun Islam Khan, 38,  an inspector of Special Branch at Rajarbagh Police Lines, from a bamboo bush near Rayerdia village in the upazila, our correspondent reports quoting Abu Bakar Siddiquee, officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station.

“Members of Rajarbagh Police Lines visited Kaliganj after the body was found and identified it,” the OC said.

The corpse was found with burns on the face and on different parts of the body, he also said.

Inspector Mamun has been missing since Sunday, OC Abu Bakar added.

Contacted, Abdul Kuddus, officer-in-charge of Sabujbag Police Station in Dhaka, confirmed the incident of the police official going missing.

A missing report was filed with Sabujbag Police Station on Monday by Jahangir Alam Khan, brother of the deceased, OC Abdul Kuddus added.

Police primarily suspected that perpetrators killed Inspector Mamun and then put his body on fire.
