Rooney picks Messi over Ronaldo as ‘greatest ever’
Wayne Rooney, the former striking partner of Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United had no hesitation in picking Lionel Messi over the Portuguese star as he said that in his eyes Messi is the ‘greatest ever’.
The new D.C United striker Rooney played with Ronaldo at Manchester United from 2004-2009 before Ronaldo made a move to play for European giants Real Madrid after winning three Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup together.
With Ronaldo leaving Real Madrid for the Italian champions Juventus, comparisons between Ronaldo with Messi may take a nosedive. But the never ending debate of who is the best among the two is set to continue with Rooney voicing his support for Messi.
Appearing on the ‘Pardon My Take’ podcast , Rooney was asked which player he preferred, and he instantly replied with “Messi”.
Rooney however admitted that both Ronaldo and Messi are the best two players to have ever played the game but kept Messi ahead of Ronaldo in the race of the ‘greatest ever’.
“Yeah, I think I’ve said this before, but they’re both probably the best two players to ever play the game.
“I just think Messi is, in my eyes, the greatest ever.” Rooney concluded.
