The car of Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was hit by a reckless bus in Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area last night amid the ongoing Traffic Week.

The Traffic Week that began across the country on August 5 will continue till August 14.

The minister escaped injuries in the accident while his car was damaged slightly, Yeadul Haque, sub-inspector of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, told The Daily Star.

The Motijheel-bound bus of New Vision Paribahan hit the car of minister Asaduzzaman Khan from behind on Mirpur road at College Gate around 9:00pm, said SI Yeadul.

The accident took place when the minister’s car was heading towards Dhanmondi from National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) after he visited a patient there, said the police official.

Police arrested the bus driver Ibrahim Khalil Imon and helper Manik, and seized the vehicle from the spot.

Inspector (traffic west) Ikhlasur Rahman filed a case against the driver and helper with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in this connection.

Following recent widespread student protests demanding safe roads, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, on August 4, announced the week-long programme to take legal steps against unfit vehicles, drivers without licence and other traffic offenders, including pedestrians.
