Govt directs authorities to implement measures for ensuring road safety
The government’s high-powered committee on road safety today ordered all concerned authorities to take effective initiatives in implementing its measures for ensuring road safety across the country including the capital Dhaka.
The committee came up with the directives in its first meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) this evening with Sajjadul Hassan, secretary of the PMO, in the chair.
An 18-member committee, headed by Sajjadul Hassan, was formed by the government on August 20 to monitor implementation of its various measures to ensure road safety.
The committee also gave directives to strengthen enforcement of the mobile courts so that unfit vehicles cannot ply on the streets and traffic laws are properly followed to improve the traffic system across the country.
It called upon the authorities concerned to undertake necessary steps to bring all roads and highways across the country under the purview of the CCTV camera network in association with local administration and local government institutions.
The committee also took several decisions to build public awareness for encouraging them to follow the traffic rules.
Besides, the committee also extended sympathy to the family members of those who have met tragic ends to their lives in road accidents.
It offered prayers seeking eternal peace of the departed souls and asked the authorities concerned to bring the people responsible for the road accidents to book to ensure justice.
