US envoy Miller visits book fair
US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R Miller along with his wife today visited the month-long Amar Ekushey Grantha Mela, Bangladesh's largest book fair.
The US ambassador and his wife reached the book fair around 12:00pm set up at the Bangla Academy premises and the adjacent Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital, reports our staff correspondent from the spot.
The couple visited different book stalls and also spent their time with children during the Shishu Prohor, arranged for every Friday and Saturday for two hours from 11:00am, at the children's corner of the fair.
During their one hour visit, they also enjoyed popular puppet show Sisimpur (the Bangladeshi adaptation of Sesame Street) along with the children at the Shishu Prohor. Halum, Iqri and Tuktuki of Sisimpur performed skits and interacted with the children at that time.
The US ambassador also took photographs with the children.
Talking to reporters after the visit, Miller said, “I am very happy to come to Bangladesh's largest book fair and pass time with children.”
Huge people visit the book fair every day and the fair inspired people in reading book, he believed.
