1971 mortar shell found in pond

A mortar shell was found at the bottom of a pond in Feni’s Fulgazi upazila today.

Labourers digging the pond found the shell, unsure of what it was initially, at Kismat Basura village, our local correspondent reports quoting police.

Md Kutub Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Fulgazi Police Station, confirmed the recovery. However, it was unsure if the shell was still live.

Police rushed to the place after hearing the news and moved everyone to a safe distance. “The shell might be from the time of Liberation War in 1971,” the OC said.

Police was keeping watch over the ammunition until further arrangement, last reported.
