Styling this teenage year
Teenage years are probably the one time in your life when you can get away with even supposed fashion suicide. So, instead of trying to fit in with social crowds, be the trendsetter paving the way for others to follow.
Layering
It's a fashion tip that works for all age groups, but as a teenager, go for colourful layering, like a red coloured vest with bright printed shirt or neon coloured jacket on the top. Shrugs with a little bit of details like lace work, self-embroidery, or even different cuts like sleeveless, three quartered, or even full sleeved are great options to keep in the wardrobe.
From different prints to kimono styled ones, coupling it with a white T-shirt and light blue denims makes this the perfect summer ready Insta-worthy outfit of the day.
Crop Top
They are here to stay, and the best way to style them is to wear one in a neutral tone/small printed one with a pair of simple/ripped denims and sneakers that match, or contrast your top. Chokers and bracelets are a must, but keep it to a bare minimum.
Denim jacket
Although the plain blue-hued ones will always be in style, go for one with funky embroidery or art work on the back, a monochrome T-shirt and ripped jeans for the ultimate rocker-chic look.
Another alternative is to go for a more form fitted jacket that can very easily be worn over anything, from long/mid knee length flowy summer dresses, kurtis, to a blouse. Paired with the right kind of pants, either leggings, bootcut/straight or culotte cuts, makes this the perfect option for those semi casual hangouts with friends at the newest cafés in town.
Dresses
Having a few girly dresses is a must. Floral patterns, pink/lavender tinted, frills or laces; just pick one, or more depending on whatever catches the eye. The best thing about dresses is that they can be dressed up or down with jackets of different textures and cuts, and leggings.
Printed palazzo pants
If you are not a fan of skin-tight leggings, then experiment a bit with palazzos. The traditional white/black pair with embroidery details is always a sure win but colourful wide printed ones are also a great style statement and so comfortable to wear!
A plain buttoned shirt or white vest, colourful printed palazzo and a hobo bag is the perfect way to channel your inner Boho chic.
Jumpsuits
Although they have been around for a while, the latest trend focuses on denim jumpsuits that look great when paired with a simple plain white T-shirt, or crop top. Add a pair of funky summer shades and you are ready for that weekend long drive to the country side!
Prints
Right now, it is all about how strong your print game is. From animal, chequered, to tribal prints, it is a great trend to opt for. Animal printed skirts look really fashionable when coupled with a plain black/white vest and a denim jacket. Chequered pants with a bootcut or bell bottom cut, worn with a monotoned laced, collared top is also a very sleek and formal option to have if you are planning on going out for dinner.
Figuring out your own style and what does and does not work for you is always a challenge; ergo as fashion evolves, so does your own style, constantly. The trick is to always seek inspiration in things that you love the most — such as the vintage era or polka dots and last but not least, always remember there is no point to putting in all that work if you don't feel comfortable and confident in what you don!
