Rashed Khan Menon and Fazle Hossain Badsha have been elected president and general secretary of Workers Party of Bangladesh respectively.

They were reelected by secret votes today, on the last day of the four-day national congress held at the Institute of Diploma Engineers’ Bangladesh auditorium in Dhaka.

Fazle Hossain Badsha came up with the announcement at a press conference there this afternoon.

Badsha said there is no alternative but to remain active in the Awami League-led 14-party alliance to build militant free and secular Bangladesh.

“We took part in the three national elections as components of the 14-party alliance to reach the goal,” the left-leaning party leader said taking a fresh vow to establish rights of labours and farmers in the country.

While addressing the press conference, Menon said the 10th congress of his party was held in a successful way despite obstructions from different quarters.

Nurul Hasan and Iqbal Kabir Jahid, politburo members of the party and its central committee members Mofazzel Hossain Manju, Anil Biswas, Tusher Kanti Das and Zakir Hossain Hobi have recently been suspended for their reported anti-party activities.

Pointing finger at the suspended leaders of his party, Menon said, “Our congress was held successfully despite conflicting activities.”

The Workers Party held a total of 60 union, municipality, upazila and thana levels councils to make the congress successful that began November 2.
