There should be a Ballon d'Or just for Messi: Neymar
PSG forward Neymar spoke about his relationship with former teammate Lionel Messi and current teammate Kylian Mbappe during an interview with France Football. The Brazil star also opened up on his recent struggle at PSG and commented that he never wanted to hurt anyone at the club when he desired to leave before the start of the season.
Neymar had wanted to return to the Camp Nou during the summer transfer window but the move fell through in the end. He would have been reunited with Argentine star Lionel Messi, who had himself said many times that he would have loved for Neymar to return to the Camp Nou.
The Barcelona no.10 recently won another Ballon d’or, his sixth, an all-time record. Neymar spoke of his admiration for his former teammate. “Messi is an incredible player. He's the best I have ever seen. It's not strange that he's won six Ballons d'Or because he's been at the peak for many years. There should have been a Ballon d'Or just for him.”
The PSG forward had a turbulent relationship with the French club but that did not extend to his strike partner Kylian Mbappe, who Neymar had to share the limelight with at the French capital as Mbappe’s star rose higher following France’ World Cup victory.
“We're really good friends. We help each other on the pitch to keep winning and to score goals. He's a kid that has something really special. There's no competition between us. Our relationship is based on friendship and camaraderie.”
He reiterated that his desire to perhaps move elsewhere perhaps emanated from not being happy at the French capital.
“Today I am a PSG player. I give 100 percent. I will give my life on the pitch for PSG to be successful.
“I never wanted to hurt anyone but my head said that if you're not happy somewhere, you have to leave.”
He also reiterated during the interview that his main objective was to win the World Cup with Brazil. "To win the World Cup with Brazil. That's the objective that I'm chasing."
