Sexual harassment: HC asks to suspend Rajshahi schoolteacher
The High Court today directed the authorities concerned to suspend Md Durul Huda, a teacher of Rajshahi University School and College, who allegedly sexually harassed a student in October last year.
The court also asked authorities to take appropriate legal action against Huda and issued a rule, asking them to explain why their failure to take action against the teacher should not be declared illegal.
The authorities must ensure security of the victim on her way to school, the court said.
The bench of Justice Hassan Arif and Justice Mohmud Hasan Talukder came up with the order and rule following a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Zubaida Gulshan Ara seeking necessary order.
She filed the petition recently with the HC as a public interest litigation following a report published on the daily Prothom Alo on February 16 under a headline, "Sexual harassment victim unable to go to school: Accused teacher on bail".
Advocation Muhammad Mijanur Rahman Masum appeared for the writ petitioner.
