Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam and his wife Dr Shayla Sagufta Islam were admitted to Kurmitola General Hospital after they tested positive for coronavirus on October 11.

Both Atiqul and Shayla were in isolation at their home since testing positive for Covid-19, said ASM Mamun, public relation officer of DNCC.

The mayor was suffering from high fever since Friday.

A team of DNCC, including the mayor, went to clean a canal in Mirpur on Thursday and he returned feeling sick since then, said an official of DNCC.

Eight officials of DNCC including chief executive officer Md Selim Reza, Secretary Mojammel Huq, mayor's APS Md Rashed, Public Relation Officer SM Mamun have also been diagnosed with Covid-19 recently.
