Journalist murder in Noakhali: HC dismayed as no one helped the man
The High Court today expressed utter dismay and dissatisfaction as nobody came forward to save a journalist when he was seeking help after being shot during a clash in Noakhali this February.
Journalist Borhan Uddin Muzakkir was shot while collecting information during a clash, and he called for help but nobody came forward to rescue him although some people were taking photos of the incident which is very unfortunate, a HC bench said.
The HC bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain Selim and Justice Mohi Uddin Shamim said this during hearing bail petitions filed by two accused -- Md Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury and Sirajul Haque alias Abul Hashem-- in the case.
The bench rejected their bail petitions considering the gravity of the offence mentioned in the case statement, Deputy Attorney General Dr Md Bashir Ullah told The Daily Star.
On February 19, the clash occurred between two groups -- one led by Abdul Quader Mirza, younger brother of Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader and another led by Mizanur Rahman Badal, organising secretary of Companiganj upazila unit AL.
Muzakkir, a correspondent of local online portal Barta Bazar and resident of Char Fakira union under Companiganj upazila, suffered bullet injuries while he was on duty.
He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) the next day.
His father filed a murder case with the local police station on February 23.
