Suspended director of Anti-Corruption Commission Khandaker Enamul Basir has again sought bail from the High Court in a case filed over transaction of Tk 40 lakh as bribe.

Enamul Basir, now in jail, filed a bail petition with the HC on Wednesday through his lawyer Zahidul Alam.

Zahidul told The Daily Star today that his client sought bail on the ground that he is ailing and has been suffering in jail for a long time.

He also said the trial proceedings of the case against him are not running now due to the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The lawyer said there may be a hearing in this regard next week.

Meanwhile, ACC's lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan said he will oppose the petition when the HC hears it.

The HC earlier refused to grant bail to Enamul Basir on several occasions considering the gravity of his offence, he said.

On July 16, 2019, ACC Director Sheikh Md Fanafillah filed the case with the ACC's Dhaka District Integrated Office-1 under the anti-money laundering act on charge of taking Tk 40 lakh as bribe from suspended deputy inspector general of police Mizanur Rahman.

Following a TV news report, in which Mizanur alleged that Basir took the bribe from him for clearing him of a corruption allegation, the ACC formed a three-member investigation committee and suspended Basir.
