The Supreme Court today stayed till June 20 the High Court's bail orders for BNP leader Aslam Chowdhury in two vandalism and arson cases.

He is also an accused in a sedition case filed on charges of hatching a conspiracy with Israel's Likud party and its intelligence agency Mossad to oust the government.

A full bench of the Appellate Division of the SC headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the orders following two separate petitions filed by the state, seeking stay on the HC orders.

The apex court also asked the state to file a leave to appeal petition with the court challenging the HC's bail orders by June 20.

Following two separate bail petitions filed by Aslam Chowdhury, a joint secretary general of BNP, the HC on May 20 granted him ad-interim bail for six months in the cases filed over vandalism and arson with Shahbagh and Kotwali police stations in 2013.

On May 15, 2016 Aslam was picked up from the capital's Khilkhet area over the alleged plot with Israel to topple Bangladesh government. After 11 days, he was sued for the alleged sedition on May 26, 2016.
