Home ministry reminds civil aviation ministry, CAAB of on-arrival visa suspension
Due to Covid-19 pandemic, visa on-arrival had been closed since June 2020. Nevertheless, many foreign investors and businessmen are still arriving at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) and applying for on-arrival visas.
Amid this situation, Home Ministry on Thursday sent a letter to Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry and Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), reminding them of the suspension of on-arrival visas.
To prevent Covid-19 infection, the government first announced the suspension of on-arrival visas in Bangladesh from March 15 to March 31 last year.
Later in June, last year, duration of the suspension was extended for an indefinite period, sources at HSIA said.
However, issuance of on-arrival visa continued for only foreign investors and businessman.
Asked, executive director of HSIA told The Daily Star that they got instruction from the Home Ministry to abide by the ongoing suspension of visa on arrival for foreign nationals.
