Mushy unlikely to continue wicketkeeping in T20s
There was a little surprise in store when Nurul Hasan Sohan continued with the wicket-keeping duties in the third T20I against New Zealand today. According to coach Russell Domingo, Mushfiqur Rahim was going to take over the wicketkeeping responsibilities from Nurul after the first two matches but after the 52-run defeat in the third T20I today, Domingo stated that Mushfiqur will likely not keep wickets in the shortest format.
"There has been a change. Initially after speaking to Mushy, he was going to keep after the second game but Mushfiqur told me that he probably doesn't want to keep in T20 cricket anymore. So, we got to move on and I don't think Mushfiqur's desire to keep is great in this format anymore," he said.
Sohan had kept wickets since the Zimbabwe series when Mushfiqur had to return to the country for personal reasons. The 27-year-old's glovework was impressive during the recent home series against Australia while he showed potential with the bat lower down the order.
Domingo stated in a post-match video to the media that Nurul will be the wicketkeeper for the rest of the series. "We've got to focus on Sohan, and possibly Liton, to possibly do those duties going into the competition," he concluded.
