Tax collection up 14%
Tax collection grew 14.2 per cent year-on-year to Tk 126,209 crore in the July-December period of the current fiscal year, according to the provisional data of the National Board of Revenue.
Increased generation of customs duty and income tax contributed to the rise in the overall collection.
Despite the higher collection growth, the NBR could attain 88 per cent of its target of Tk 143,291 crore set for the first half of 2021-22.
Now, the tax authority will require to collect Tk 203,709 crore in the second half of the fiscal year ending in June to achieve its goal of Tk 330,000 crore for the entire fiscal year.
Between July and December, VAT receipts were up 9.5 per cent year-on-year at Tk 46,585 crore.
Collection of import tariffs surged 19.5 per cent to Tk 40,202 crore. Income tax collection stood at Tk 39,421 crore, an increase of 15 per cent from a year ago, NBR data showed.
