Tabith Awal injured as BNP programme comes under attack in Banani
BNP executive committee member and former DNCC mayoral candidate Tabith Awal was seriously injured in an attack on a BNP programme in the capital's Banani today (September 17, 2022).
Tabith Awal has been taken to United Hospital in Dhaka's Gulshan-2 for treatment, BNP's media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan confirmed The Daily Star.
Shairul Kabir Khan said a large number of leaders and activists took part in a programme with candles on the footpath on one side of Kamal Ataturk Avenue in Banani, organised by the Dhaka Metropolitan North unit of BNP.
BNP Joint Secretary General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal said, "Chhatra League and Jubo League were marching on the other side of the road before our programme started. However, when the speech of the chief guest of the programme, Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, was almost in the final stage, our leaders and activists were attacked from the other side."
"Many leaders and activists, including women, were injured in the attack. Tabith Awal was one of them. More details can be given later," he said, adding, "It does not come to mind how such a peaceful programme can be attacked."
