DU probing extortion allegation against proctorial body members

The Dhaka University authorities have formed a three-member probe committee to investigate an allegation of extortion against several members of the mobile team of current proctorial body.

The accused officials allegedly extorted around half a crore taka over the period of one year, from floating vendors whom they illegally gave permission to operate on the campus.

The committee was formed as per the directive of DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman, according to a press release signed by Mahmud Alam, director of public relations office of DU, issued today.

Prof Maksudur Rahman of geography and environment department has been made the convener of the probe body while Assistant Proctor Prof Liton Kumar Shaha has been made member secretary.

The committee was asked to submit a report within two weeks. The authority also urged the complainants to provide all evidence regarding this issue.
