Shakib joins Tigers camp after Dubai controversy
Bangladesh Test and T20I skipper Shakib Al Hasan joined the Tigers training camp in Sylhet on Friday, a day before the three-match ODI series against Ireland commences at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
The all-rounder is hardly ever away from the next controversy and in his latest off-field conundrum, he has taken part in a controversial business commitment in the UAE.
Shakib went to Dubai along with some other celebrities for the inauguration of Arav Jewellers, owned by Arav Khan, on Wednesday.
Rabiul Islam, alias Arav Khan, of Gopalganj's Kotalipara upazila, is a fugitive accused in the murder of a police official.
Mohammad Harun Or Rashid, chief of the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said they informed Shakib and other celebrities about Arav alias Rabiul Islam's criminal record but the all-rounder wouldn't deter from the business commitment he had in place.
"It is sad that some stars, including Shakib Al Hasan, took part in the inauguration even after knowing that he is a murderer. He killed an inspector of the police's Special Branch," Harun told reporters at his office in the capital on Thursday.
"We do not know why they did it," he said, adding they would interrogate the cricketer and others if needed for the sake of the investigation.
