Peot Radhapada Roy, hailing from Kurigram, was attacked by two villagers last Saturday. While the motives behind the attack on the 80-year-old poet, better known as the 'Charan' poet by the locals, have yet to be uncovered by the police, protests demanding adequate punishment for the attackers have been ongoing across the country.

Expressing his grief and thoughts on this case, renowned cultural persona Ramendu Majumdar shared a few words with The Daily Star and said, "Charan poet Radhapada Roy is an ordinary and simple man – an elderly man on top of that. He was attacked by criminal assailants, and I express extreme contempt toward such incidents. Attacking such an innocent poet is an unacceptable act. In fact, we shouldn't tolerate such oppression against anyone."

The thespian felt quite shaken and helpless by this incident. He considers this 'attack on Radhapada Roy' an inhumane act that should be punished. Otherwise, it will be hard to prevent other incidents like this from taking place. The noted cultural artiste further added, "Something like this shouldn't have happened; it's not right and shouldn't be pardoned. The government must quickly investigate this case and adequately punish the assailants. Truth be told, if criminals get properly punished, such incidents would cease to happen."

He shared, "Respect and devotion have faded away from our society. Meanwhile, open-mindedness, which is necessary for a beautiful society, a beautiful nation, and a beautiful world, has disappeared."

"Cruelty and the tendency to attack others have been rising among the people, which is a matter of grave concern," said the noted cultural artiste. "This begs the question, is justice really being served? With adequate law enforcement and punishments, crime will dwindle down."

Ramendu Majumdar concluded by wishing for this case to be swiftly investigated so that justice would be served. "My prayers are with Radhapada Roy; may he live a healthy and happy life," he said.
