Narayanganj Police-BNP clash: 10 arrested from Dhaka hotel

Members of Rapid Action Battalion today claimed to have arrested 10 people from Dhaka in connection with the clash between law enforcers and BNP men that injured three police officials in Araihazar upazila of Narayanganj on Tuesday.

Khandaker Al Moin, Rab's legal and media wing confirmed it to The Daily Star. The arrestees are Jewel Ahmed, 52, Ifsuf Ali Bhuiyan, 69, Masum Shikari, 45, Habibur Rahman alias Selim, 48, Shafiuddin Bhuiyan, 51, Shafiuddin Bhuiyan, 48, Masukul Islam alias Rajib, 53, Shakil Mia, 40, Arman Mollah, 46, and Habibur Rahman, 54, according to a press release issued in this regard.

They were arrested from a hotel in Gulshan area, Rab officials said. After the clash on October 31, the involved people hid in different upscale and well-known hotels in the Gulshan vicinity, Rab claimed. The arrestees had plans to carry out acts of sabotage and violence in Gulshan area there, according to the press release.

While staying at these establishments, these individuals were allegedly involved in plotting acts of sabotage and violence across the country, including the capital. They were purportedly also engaged in various violent and disruptive activities.

The clash took place on Tuesday at 8:30am in Panchrukhi area after BNP men blocked a road there. BNP activists and leaders started throwing brick chunks and stones after police arrived at the spot. Police dispersed them by firing rubber bullets and teargas shells. One of the three injured police men suffered stab wound.
