Nationwide releases today: Take a break, head towards the halls
Today, four movies, both local and international, are hitting theatres nationwide. Among the Bangladeshi releases are "Priyo Maloti" and "Makorshar Jall", while Cineplex audiences can also enjoy the Hollywood titles "Kraven the Hunter" and "Mufasa: The Lion King."
Priyo Maloti
From Toronto to Cairo, Busan to Saudi Arabia's Red Sea Film Festival—Mehazabien Chowdhury has travelled to various film festivals showcasing her two films, "Saba" and "Priyo Maloti."
Mehazabien shared her excitement about the festival screenings and expressed her enthusiasm for bringing these films to Bangladeshi audiences. After much anticipation, her big-screen debut, "Priyo Maloti", is finally hitting 22 theatres nationwide today.
Inspired by true events, Shankha Dasgupta directed "Priyo Maloti." In the film, Mehazabien plays Maloti Rani Das, who starts a new chapter of life with Palash Kumar Das. Like any other lower-middle-class couple, they dream of building a happy and simple life together. However, a devastating fire at a market disrupts their harmony.
The film also stars Azad Abul Kalam, Momena Chowdhury, Shamu Chowdhury, and others.
Mufasa: The Lion King
Disney's media franchise film series began with the classic animated movie "The Lion King," released in 1994. In 2019, a remake of the film with the same title was introduced.
The tale of Simba, the jungle's ruler, won the hearts of audiences, young and old alike. Today, five years later, the prequel to "The Lion King" arrives, titled "Mufasa: The Lion King."
This film explores the backstory of Mufasa. As a young cub, Mufasa is tragically lost. Wandering through the jungle, he faces numerous dangers. In one such perilous moment, he is rescued by Scar, who is of the same age. Mufasa and Scar form a friendship, and despite objections from others, Scar brings Mufasa into his own family. Mufasa grows up alongside them, eventually becoming the king of the jungle.
Directed by Barry Jenkins, the animated feature "Mufasa: The Lion King" premieres today in Bangladeshi cineplexes alongside its global release.
Makorshar Jall
The story of Himu relocating from his rural home to the bustling city, where he becomes entangled in unlawful activities such as theft and robbery. His family remains oblivious to his criminal pursuits. Despite his desire to abandon this path, his name becomes linked to a murder investigation.
Directed by Akash Acharjee, "Makorshar Jall" showcases a lineup of emerging talents, including Himadri Himu, Samiha Aktar, Mahmudul Islam Mithu, Komol Patekar, and Javed Chowdhury, among others.
Reflecting on the project, Akash Acharjee stated, "The progress of our film industry relies on collaboration and the inclusion of fresh talent. With this in mind, I chose to work with newcomers. 'Makorshar Jall' is a film designed to captivate audiences in theatres."
Kraven the Hunter
Kraven makes his cinematic debut, stepping out of the pages of Marvel Comics, where he first appeared in 1964 as a ruthless hunter.
Directed by JC Chandor, "Kraven the Hunter" explores the complex relationship between Kraven and his father, Nikolai Kravinoff. This dynamic drives Kraven down a path of vengeance, setting him on a quest to become the greatest hunter in the world.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars in the lead role, joined by Russell Crowe, Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, and Alessandro Nivola, among others.
