After five years of waiting, the film "Makeup" has finally been approved for release. The director and production company have received the official permit. However, a few scenes had to be cut before approval, confirmed director Anonno Mamun to Prothom Alo.

In October, the film was officially banned by the Appeals Committee under the newly implemented Certification Act of 2023, as announced by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. According to the notice, the decision followed a review by members of the Appeals Committee.

The director stated that after the Censor Board initially denied the film's release, it was reviewed by the Appeals Division. Per protocol, a film cannot be resubmitted with changes until the Appeals Division fully rejects it.

The director then chose to submit the film to the newly formed Certification Board. After being delayed for five years, "Makeup" finally received approval for release on December 17 from the Certification Board. He further affirmed that the film has been awarded a "U" grade, signifying Universal – making it suitable for viewers of all ages and genders.

Anonno Mamun mentioned that minimal cuts were made to the film, with only a 1-minute-12-seconds long scene removed, which did not impact the overall narrative. Images of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina were taken out. A few dialogues that drew objections were also removed. The corrections were minor and did not present any major issues.

Previously, in January 2021, the former Bangladesh Film Censor Board had banned the film. A report published by The Daily Star on February 10, 2021, titled "Bangladesh Film Censor Board bans Anonno Mamun's film 'Makeup'," included comments from Khorshed Alam Khosru, a former Censor Board member.

He stated, "We made this decision after watching the film. While it still requires approval from our chairman and the ministry, we found the content offensive. The movie negatively depicts the film industry."

"Makeup" tells the story of a superstar's life. Tariq Anam Khan portrays the lead role of a movie star, with his character named Shahbaz Khan. Aside from Tariq Anam Khan, Ziaul Roshan and Nipa Ahmed Realy play significant roles in the film.
