Kalshi flyover crash: Outing turns tragic for two friends

The identities of the two motorcyclists who died in a collision between a private car and a motorcycle on the Kalshi New Road Flyover in Mirpur yesterday have been confirmed.

The victims, identified as Riad, 16, and Tofazzal, 17, were friends, Pallabi Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Atikur Rahman said, adding that their families identified the bodies at Dhaka Medical College Hospital this morning.

Following requests from the families, the process of handing over the bodies without autopsies is underway, the SI said.

The accident occurred when a motorcycle and a private car collided around 9:45 pm yesterday on the Kalshi New Road Flyover in Mirpur-12, he added.

The pillion rider fell off the flyover following the collision.

After the accident, pedestrians rushed them to DMCH, where doctors declared them dead at 11:00pm.

Tofazzal's elder brother, Md Naim, said their family is originally from Maura village in Itna upazila of Kishoreganj. Their father, Renu Mia, currently lives with the family in a rented house in the Manikdi Bazar area of Dhaka and runs a vegetable shop there.

Tofazzal was a ninth-grade student at ELF School in the ECB Chattar area and also helped at his father's shop.

Naim further said Tofazzal's friend Riad, who is from Chandpur district, came to visit their home in Dhaka last Thursday, as the two became friends through playing the online mobile game Free Fire.

Yesterday evening, they went out together, and Tofazzal was driving the motorcycle.

Later, the family learned that they had met with an accident on the Kalshi Flyover, and Naim identified Tofazzal's body at Dhaka Medical this morning.

Meanwhile, Riad's cousin, Md Russel, said their family is from Haman Kuddi village in Chandpur Sadar upazila, and Riad was a student at a local madrasa.

Riad's father, Billal Kazi, is a migrant worker in Dubai, the cousin said.

He came to Dhaka last Thursday to visit his friend, but this morning, they received news of the accident, he added.
