25000 In Red
Charity is an integral part of our religion and culture. This Ramadan, a leading mobile telecom operators, Robi Axiata, has come up with an innovative idea to help their customers spread the Eid spirit among the underprivileged with little cost and effort.
“The promotional idea we came up with was that every time a customer recharged their phone with a nominal amount of Tk 60, which they do anyway, not only will they get the loads of bonuses which they already get, but ROBI on their behalf would make a donation to buy clothing for underprivileged children on Eid,” says Toffael Rashid, the Executive Vice President of Robi's Brand and Market Communication Department. “The thought was that ROBI customers would make these children smile on Eid. We have committed to distribute 25000 of red panjabis and kurtis which have already been manufactured and produced by a factory in Gazipur, and we are distributing them in all 64 districts in Bangladesh,” he explains.
ROBI has sales people and NGO networks in these districts who are helping with this distribution to legitimate orphanages or schools that they personally have verified. “Everyday on our website we publish how many customers have re-charged and how many clothes we have distributed. At every single distribution point there will be press and photographers, to physically see that we are carrying out the intention that we stated.”
