BSA observes World Puppet Theatre Day
Children, taking varied coloured and shaped puppets in their hands, joined in a procession to mark World Puppet Theatre Day at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) on March 21. BSA commemorated the day with a discussion, procession, display of puppets, honouring puppet theatre artist and staging of puppet theatre.
An organisation called "Jalputul" conducted a three-hour long workshop titled "Laal Pori Neel Pori Ar Jal Putul-er Galpo" of making puppet at the venue. They produced many interesting puppets.
BSA conferred an honour, prize money and crest on puppet theatre artiste Moni Datta Adhikari of Dinajpur. Chief guest of the event eminent artist Mustafa Monwar handed over the award to him at Music and Dance Centre auditorium of BSA on the day.
Professor Rashid Harun of the Department of Drama and Dramatics of Jahangirnagar University discussed the programme, presided over by Liaquat Ali Lucky, DG of BSA. An open puppet exhibition took place at BSA premises. Later, a popular folk puppet theatre production "Gunai Bibi" was staged. Directed by Moni Datta Adhikari, Samannay Putul Natto troupe of Dinajpur staged the play.
Prior to that, Professor Rashid Harun presented a keynote paper titled "Bangladesh-er Putul Natto: Shilper Shonkot O Sambhabona" at the seminar room of National Theatre Hall of BSA.
The seminar was vibrant with the participation of troupes from Dinajpur, Satkhira, Manikganj and other regions of Bangladesh. Liaquat Ali Lucky presided over the seminar.
