Contempt of Court against Sajeda, Matia

Decision about proceedings on November 13

International Crimes Tribunal-2 will decide on November 13 whether it will initiate contempt of court proceeding against ruling Awami League leaders Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury and Matia Chowdhury for allegedly disrespecting the tribunal.
The three-member tribunal headed by Justice ATM Fazle Kabir fixed the date after hearing two separate contempt of court petitions.
Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Quader Mollah filed one of the petitions on August 5 against Sajeda, deputy leader of the House, for allegedly making a statement disrespecting the tribunal at a public rally.
Over similar allegations, another Jamaat leader Muhammad Kamaruzzaman filed the other contempt petition against Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury on August 29.
During yesterday's hearing, counsels of Matia and Sajeda told the tribunal that the reports, on the basis of which the defence brought the contempt charges, did not publish their clients' speeches “fully and properly.”
The petitioners, Quader Mollah and Kamaruzzaman, are facing charges of crimes against humanity committed in the 1971 Liberation War at the tribunal.
