Voter list updating starts July 25

The Election Commission (EC) will start enlisting new voters across Bangladesh from July 25 in a bid to update the existing voter list.

Representatives of the EC will go door to door in each constituency until August 9 to enlist new voters, Muhammad Abdullah, secretary of EC Secretariat, told journalists this afternoon.

A draft of the updated voter list will be published on January 2 next year and it will be finalised on January 31, the secretary added.

Muhammad Abdullah addressed the journalists after attending a meeting on updated voter list at the EC secretariat in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar of Dhaka.  

To update the list, the EC collected data of tentative voters between November 25 and December 15 last year.

Currently, there are around 10.14 crore voters in the country.
