Ershad, Fakhrul fly to Rangpur in same flight
Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad and BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam went to Rangpur in the same flight today ahead of Rangpur City Corporation polls.
They left Dhaka for Saidpur in a flight of US-Bangla Airlines around 10:30am, BNP chairperson's media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan told UNB.
Seeing Ershad in the flight, Sayrul said, Fakhrul stood up, shook hands with him and exchanged pleasantries.
They later took their respective seats and had no more conversation.
Ershad was accompanied by his son Eric Ershad while Fakhrul by Kalyan Party Chairman Syed Mohammad Ibrahim, Muktijoddha Dal President Ishtiaq Aziz Ulfat and Sayrul.
From Saiddpur, they went to Rangpur city around 1:00pm.
Rangpur City Corporation goes to polls on December 21 while the curtain on the election campaign falls on Tuesday midnight.
Outgoing mayor Mayor Sarfuddin Ahmed is contesting the election to retain his mayoral position with Awami League ticket while Kausar Zaman Babla and Mostafizur Rahman Mostaf with BNP and Jatiya Party tickets respectively.
Sayrul said Fakhrul is scheduled to carry out election campaign in favour of Babal at different points of the city throughout the day.
He will stay overnight in Rangpur city on Monday night to conduct campaign on Tuesday morning before leaving for his hometown Thakurgaon, Sayrul added.
