Hearing on Salahuddin adjourned till Apr 8
The High Court toady adjourned till April 8 the hearing on a petition seeking its order on the government to produce BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed before it in 24 hours.
The HC bench of justices Quamrul Islam Siddique and Gabinda Chandra Tagore passed the adjournment order after concluding the day’s proceedings.
At the hearing, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told the court that Salahuddin is not under the custody of the law enforcement agencies and they have not arrested him.
The attorney general read out from the reports submitted by the law enforcement agencies who said they are continuously trying to find out Salahuddin, a joint secretary general of BNP.
Petitioner’s counsel Moudud Ahmed told the court that they will make a reply to the report submitted by the law enforcement agencies.
He prayed to the court to adjourn the hearing of the petition as the court will go into vacation from tomorrow.
The court will reopen on April 1.
According to Salahuddin's family, some plainclothes men showed identity cards of the Detective Branch of police and picked Salahuddin up from a Uttara residence in the capital on the night of March 10.
Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque on March 13 claimed that none of the law enforcement agencies had arrested BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed.
On the same day, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia alleged that law enforcers picked up Salahuddin but they have been denying the fact. She also warned of bad consequences if Salahuddin was not released immediately.
