Nagorik Oikya, a newly formed political party, today placed a 12-point recommendation that included a proposal for holding the next general election under a poll-time impartial government.

Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna placed the proposals for holding free, fair and inclusive general elections at a press conference at Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka in the afternoon.

“Election under the present government will not be held in a free and fair manner. We strongly opposing the proposals for holding the elections under the present government,” Manna said in a written statement.

Nagorik Oikya suggested that the Election Commission can take initiatives to find out the modes of the election-time government through discussion with the political parties.

In the 12-point recommendation, Nagorik Oikya also proposed to dissolve the parliament before holding of the election, deploy army with magistracy power during the elections, not to use electronic voting machines and enlist non-resident Bangladeshi in the voter-list.

Nagorik Oikya that transformed into a political party this June from a social organisation also proposed the Election Commission to formulate a code of conduct for media for ensuring objective reporting during elections.
