SC upholds bail for ex-MP Rana
Ex-Awami League lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana’s bail has been upheld at the Supreme Court in freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed murder case.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain granted him bail today, upholding a previous High Court order.
Former lawmaker from Tangail-3, Rana will not be able to walk free as his bail has been denied in another case, Deputy Attorney General Dr Md Bashir Ullah told The Daily Star.
On March 14, the High Court bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman granted six months' bail to the former lawmaker in the murder case.
According to the case, the bullet-hit body of freedom fighter Faruk, also a district AL leader of Tangail, was found on January 18, 2013. Police found evidence of Rana's involvement in the killing.
Rana was sent to jail after his surrender before a lower court in July 2015 in connection with the case.
