Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury today pledged to hold a free and fair city corporation election in Rajshahi on July 30.

“I want you to have faith on Election Commission,” he told the candidates of Rajshahi City Corporation elections at a view exchange programme held in city.

The Election Commission will do whatever it needs to ensure free and fair elections to the Rajshahi City Corporation on July 30, he said.

Mayor and councillor candidates of Rajshahi City Corporation elections, senior officials of law enforcement agencies and election officials attended the programme held at Bangladesh Karmachari Kollyan Board auditorium.

In his speech, the Election Commissioner Brig Gen Shahadat warned officials of Rajshahi’s administration, police and election commission of stern action if any allegation of biasness is raised against any of them.

“We will not tolerate any exhibition of money and muscle power,” he said adding that he directed all concerned not to allow any single incident of occupying vote centre and illegal sealing the ballot papers.

He asked the candidates to abide by the election code of conduct. “We will not compromise with any violation of the rules. He asked the candidates to control their workers, supporters and polling agents for maintaining peaceful atmosphere," he said.
