Salahuddin’s wife seeks PM intervention
The wife of BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed, who remains missing for the last nine days, submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today seeking her intervention in tracing the whereabouts of her husband.
In the memorandum that she submitted to the Prime Minister Office around 11:20am, wife Hasina Ahmed, a former BNP lawmaker, urged the premier for her special guidelines in tracing Salahuddin, considering his family and children and to uphold their constitutional rights.
She sought an appointment to meet the prime minister to discuss the issue.
“I also urge that, if my husband has committed any crime or if he is an accused in any case, the legal process should start against him through producing him before the court,” she said in her memorandum.
Salahuddin’s wife was accompanied by his cousin Giasuddin Ahmed and his wife Shahim Ara while visiting the PM’s office.
“As she (the prime minister) is a mother and a wife, she will understand my pain and give instructions to the law enforcement agencies so that they produce my husband before public,” the wife told media after submitting the memorandum.
According to the family of Salahuddin and BNP, a team of 20/30 members of police, detectives and Rapid Action Battalion picked up the joint secretary general of the party along with his two staff, including a woman, on March 10 from a house in the capital's Uttara.
Following a writ petition filed by his wife with the High Court, law enforcement agencies submitted five separate reports to the attorney general office on March 15 saying that none of the agencies had arrested the BNP leader.
The reports were submitted by the offices of the inspector general of police, director general of Rapid Action Battalion, Criminal Investigation Department, Special Branch of Police, and Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Salahuddin, a former state minister, frequently announced hartals by issuing press releases on behalf of the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
